Here's how the #BCFWildlife Photo Contest works:

  1. Take a picture of West Coast wildlife. Whether fierce, funny or seriously stoic, all animal photos are welcome.

  2. Your submission must be an original photo of your own making, depicting wildlife and photographed in British Columbia within the last 3 years.

  3. Post it with the hashtag #BCFWildlife on your Instagram, Facebook or Twitter account.

  4. To enter, you will need to have an active Instagram, Facebook or Twitter account. To be eligible, you will need to ensure your post is public so that your entry can be found by our judges.

  5. Visit our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages to keep tabs on your #BCFWildlife competition! We'll be sharing updates throughout the contest period.

  6. Entries must be submitted with the contest hashtag (#BCFWildlife) during the contest period from April 26, 2022 – May 15, 2022 to be considered.

  7. A panel of judges appointed by BC Ferries will review posts and select ten finalist photos. The top ten will be contacted by BC Ferries and the finalist photos will be featured in a BC Ferries Facebook album on or around May 18, 2022.

  8. A panel of judges will then select the winning submission from the top ten on or after May 20, 2022. The best photo will be selected at the judges’ discretion. The judges’ decisions are final and cannot be challenged.

  9. If you are selected to win, a BC Ferries representative will contact you on or after around May 23, 2022. If you do not reply in 48 hours, you will no longer be eligible to win.

Judging Criteria:

This is how the judges will be assessing each shot:

  • Does it convey the majestic nature or cuteness of the animal pictured?
  • Does it capture the beauty of British Columbia?
  • Does it demonstrate creativity?

Here are some wildlife viewing and photography guidelines from our friends at BC Parks and at Parks Canada on how to watch and photograph wildlife in a way that's safe for the wildlife and you.
