We are actively following a rapidly intensifying storm that is expected to reach parts of British Columbia’s West Coast by Tuesday, November 19, 2024. The adverse weather conditions may impact travel through Wednesday, November 20.

Travellers are advised to check our Service Notices page prior to travel for any possible service disruptions.

Not all commercial vehicles can be booked online

If you are hauling an oversize load, require facilities for refrigerated vehicles or other special arrangements, call to book at 1-888-BC FERRY (1-888-223-3779).

An oversize load is defined as having an:
 
  • Overall width greater than 9 feet (2.74m)*
  • Overall length greater than 99 feet (30.18m)

To avoid possible delays, it is strongly recommended that you contact us prior to arranging vehicle permits or arriving at the terminal.

*If your vehicle width is greater than 13 feet (3.96m), we may not be able to accommodate you.
 

Drop trailer service

Drop off your commercial trailer at select terminals and then our staff will transport it to its destination terminal.

This service is available on the following routes:
  • Vancouver (Tsawwassen) – Victoria (Swartz Bay)
  • Vancouver (Tsawwassen) – Nanaimo (Duke Point)
  • Port Hardy (Bear Cove) – Prince Rupert
  • Prince Rupert – Graham Island (Skidegate)
  • Port Hardy (Bear Cove) – Central Coast: Bella Bella (McLoughlin Bay), Bella Coola, Ocean Falls, Shearwater

Height, weight and ramp load limits

Terminal and ferry height limits
Maximum allowable vehicle heights depend on both the terminal and ferry limitations. For more information on terminal and ferry height limits, contact our Customer Service Centre at 1-888-BC FERRY (1-888-223-3779) or @BCFerries on X.
Southern Gulf Island ramp, length and load limits
The following terminals have a ramp load of 39,500 kg and an axle limit of 5 loaded axles:
 
  • Crofton
  • Salt Spring Island (Vesuvius Bay)
  • Chemainus
  • Thetis Island (Preedy Harbour)
  • Penelakut Island (Telegraph Harbour)
  • Galiano Island (Sturdies Bay)
  • Gabriola Island (Descano Bay) 
Important:
  • The driver of the vehicle will be required to provide proof of vehicle weight through a current weigh bill or an Overweight Vehicle Passage Approval Form issued by BC Ferries, prior to being authorized to travel.
  • Vehicles exceeding 39,500 kg will not be permitted to travel at these terminals.


The following terminals have a ramp load of 56,500 kg and an axle limit of 7 loaded axles:
  • Pender Island (Otter Bay)
Important:
  • The driver of the vehicle is required to provide proof of vehicle weight through a current weight bill or an Overweight Vehicle Passage Approval Form issued by BC Ferries, prior to being authorized to travel.
  • Vehicles exceeding 56,500 kg will not be permitted to travel at these terminals

For travel to or from the Southern Gulf Islands, please be advised that the maximum length may vary by port. Call 1-888-BC FERRY to ensure travel is suitable.
