Brenda Eaton elected Chair of the Board of Directors
British Columbia Ferry Services Inc.
VICTORIA – British Columbia Ferry Services Inc. (“BC Ferries”) announces that Brenda J. Eaton has been elected Chair of the Board of Directors of BC Ferries effective April 1, 2021. Current Board Chair, John A. Horning has stepped down effective March 31, 2021, as his maximum eight-year term limit on the Board came to a close.Ms. Eaton has been a constructive and dedicated member of the BC Ferries Board since she joined in January 2019. She is a corporate director, who has served for more than 15 years on various private, public, Crown corporation and not-for-profit Boards. Ms. Eaton is currently Chair of Westland Insurance, and serves on the Boards of LifeLabs, RBC's Global Asset Management Independent Review Committee and Victoria's sewage treatment project board, in addition to the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research, Canadian Red Cross and the Vancouver Foundation. She formerly held senior positions in the British Columbia provincial government, including Deputy Minister to the Premier, and Deputy Minister of Finance and Treasury Board; Social Services; and Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources. Ms. Eaton was also Chief Financial Officer and Vice President Operations Support of the former Capital Health Region. She has a Master's degree in Economics and is certified by the Institute of Corporate Directors.
The BC Ferries Board thanks Mr. Horning for his years of commitment and valuable service. His leadership and strategic direction, particularly over the past year during the global pandemic, has helped the company emerge from the challenge well positioned to serve the public interest.
