July 25, 29 and August 7, 2024

Patricia Bay Highway (Hwy 17) between Victoria and Swartz Bay on Vancouver Island will be temporarily closed from Tanner Road to Island View Road due to the Keating Cross Road Overpass Project during the noted times on the following dates:

Customers looking to travel to or from Swartz Bay terminal during closure times will be impacted and should plan their travel accordingly. A detour will be in effect via Central Saanich Road. Customers should be prepared for a 15-20 minute delay as a result.

Embark on an epic 8-hour adventure around Orford Bay and Bute Inlet by boat to respectfully watch grizzlies in the Great Bear Rainforest. See elk, bald eagles and other wildlife roaming around the area. After you get off the boat, explore Orford Bay by bus—listening to exciting stories about local history with an expert guide. Learn all about Orford Bay and the wildlife living around the area before you head back to Campbell River.

  • Look for humpback whales, orcas, sea lions and more as you explore Orford Bay by boat with an expert guide.
  • Enjoy lunch on the boat in Orford Bay with gorgeous views of the estuary and its spectacular mountain surroundings.
  • Listen to local stories about the bears, salmon, Homalco people and their significant ties to the land.

Activity policies

Activity price includes fuel surcharge, bear conservation and salmon conservation fee. 

Guests must be 10 years or older and must be physically fit enough to walk up stairs

Lunch is included in the tour. Please let BC Ferries Vacations know if you have any dietary restrictions. 

Tour Availability: please note a minimum of six participants is required for the tour to take place.  Should there not be enough guests, the tour can be cancelled and a BC Ferries Vacations representative will notify you.

Meeting Location: Coast Marina, 1003 B Island Highway, Campbell River, BC

Guests are to arrive at the meeting location 30 minutes prior to departure.

The Great Bears of Bute Tour is available to enjoy from August 15 to October 31
