Victoria to Swartz Bay

July 25, 29 and August 7, 2024

Patricia Bay Highway (Hwy 17) between Victoria and Swartz Bay on Vancouver Island will be temporarily closed from Tanner Road to Island View Road due to the Keating Cross Road Overpass Project during the noted times on the following dates:

Customers looking to travel to or from Swartz Bay terminal during closure times will be impacted and should plan their travel accordingly. A detour will be in effect via Central Saanich Road. Customers should be prepared for a 15-20 minute delay as a result.

DAY 1

Prince Rupert to Tlell via Skidegate 

Enjoy the views on your seven-hour voyage across the Hecate Strait. Once you have arrived in Haida Gwaii, head to Tlell for your welcome orientation at Haida House, and a gourmet west coast style dinner.

DAY 2

Tlell

Enjoy breakfast prepared by the lodge's chef, then get ready for a private tour of the award-winning Kay Llnagaay Heritage Centre and Museum. Immerse yourself in Haida Gwaii’s rich history, and afterwards visit local Haida artisan’s studios and carving sheds. Watch as these master artists work in their element on Haida monumental totem poles, canoes, and other projects.

DAY 3

Naikoon Provincial Park

Start your day with a hearty breakfast as you'll be exploring Naikoon Provincial Park today. Hike to the top of Taaw Tldáaw (Tow Hill) and enjoy breathtaking views of endless beaches and the distant Alaskan islands. Enjoy a picnic lunch at Agate Beach, followed by a visit to the Hiellen Village. Here, you'll discover a grand carved pole along with a series of local galleries and boutiques.

DAY 4

K'uuna Llnagaay

Spend a full day on a marine expedition to Ḵ’uuna Llnagaay (Skedans). Sail in an open-air zodiac vessel to an ancient village site and see more than 50 pieces of monumental poles outside the boundaries of Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve. Learn what the poles represent and explore the area to see how the people lived.

DAY 5

Masset to Prince Rupert via Skidegate

Start your morning off with a farewell breakfast at the lodge, then head out to explore Old Massett where you can shop local Haida galleries, or enjoy some delicious fresh seafood while watching eagles soar overhead near the ocean. Enjoy a scenic drive back to the ferry terminal for your return sailing to Prince Rupert.
